Cursor (databases) - In database packages, the term cursor refers to a control structure for the successive [(and potential processing) of records] returned by a [[query.
Multidimensional database - Multidimensional databases are variously (depending on the context) data aggregators which combine data from a multitude of data sources; databases which offer networks, hierarchies, arrays and other data formats difficult to model in SQL; or databases which offer a high degree of flexibility in the definition of dimensions, units, and unit relationships, regardless of data format.
Biological database - As of 2004, there are around 500 public and commercial biological databases. These databases usually contain genomics and proteomics data, but databases are also used in taxonomy.
Information retrieval - Information retrieval (IR) is the art and science of searching for information in documents, searching for documents themselves, searching for metadata which describe documents, or searching within databases, whether relational stand alone databases or hypertext networked databases such as the Internet or intranets, for text, sound, images or data. There is a common confusion, however, between data retrieval, document retrieval, information retrieval, and text retrieval, and each of these have their own bodies of literature, theory, praxis and technologies.
Petrological Databases - Two downloadable databases, provided by the International Union of Geological Sciences. The igneous database can be downloaded in ASCII form or as a Microsoft Access database; the sedimentary database can be downloaded only in Microsoft Access form. Both databases can also be accessed on-line via browser.
